Gradual Creative Shift

For many years, the double bass was my comfort zone. It was a place of stability, responsibility, and presence - standing slightly to the side, holding things together, listening more than speaking.
Over time, I found myself writing more songs, and slowly moving closer to the center. Not in a dramatic way, and not all at once. More as a gradual decision to give the songs - and singing in my own voice - more room than I used to. To stay with them longer, to listen more carefully, and to allow them to lead rather than accompany.
There’s a certain daring for me in that shift, even after many years of making music. The bass offers shelter. Singing asks for exposure. Moving from one to the other means stepping out of what’s known, and trusting timing and vulnerability.
I don’t feel like I’m starting something new. It feels more like narrowing the focus -
letting go of side paths, placing the song and the voice at the center, and seeing what happens when I don’t step away too quickly.
For now, I’m staying there. Listening. Working. Letting the songs take the space they ask for.
